18 n. RIO RICO - SW
Size: 10.9 sq. mi.

GENERAL: Driving, and stopping in quiet area for short walks. Residential area with scattered homes, grassy hills and mesquites, plus Nat Forest access to a seldom-birded small canyon.

NOTES:  One spot to check in the residential area is at the south end of Camino Caralampi (marked in red on the map). This is a small area but appears very birdy. It is National Forest south of the fence.   There is manufactured cattle tank/water trough located in slightly south and west of the end of Camino Caralampi.   Looking at the map, it is south of the house on on Celaya Ct., but accessed by a bit of cross-country bush-whacking to get onto the slight upland north of the main wash paths.   It doesn’t appear to show up on the google map- but had Lawrence’s Goldfinches and several other species
A second area is west of there in the same neighborhood, just southeast of the junction of Camino Kansas & Ave Septiembre on Paseo Reforma. Look for a small (two-track?) road south. Suggest parking and walking about a mile south on this road to the junction with a pipeline road. Past the gate this is all in National Forest. (Road is shown in red on the map.)
Check areas between houses, and check ornamental berry plantings near homes if it can be done without intruding on privacy.
A third area to check is White Oak Tank.   GPS directions got us to Paseo Reforma and then informed us to park the car, and take a one mile walk to the tank; those directions were spot on.   There was water in the tank in 2021.

TARGET SPECIES: Under-birded! Some grassy areas that might yield Botteri's Sparrow and other grassland birds. Consider use of playback and owl calls/pishing to try to draw them out of the grass.
