Sector 8: Rio Rico Golf Course

8. RIO RICO GOLF COURSE
Size: 2.94 sq. mi.

GENERAL: RRGC has been sold and converted to ag lands. Permission and access to this area, and adjacent property, must be gained from new owner, Andy Jackson. Unfortunately, as of 2022 all access has been denied into the property. Do not enter the gate. Birders for this section should simply bird the perimeter and record those results.

NOTES:  There WERE four excellent ponds on the course, as well as lots of short and long grass, tall pine trees, riparian trees, and mesquite desert. The dry Sonoita Creek meets the Santa Cruz River just to the southwest, and the course of Sonoita Creek is worth checking, as well as any accessible desert and canyon washes to the north.

TARGET SPECIES: The drainages on the adjacent property have excellent potential. Fences should be checked carefully for perching flycatchers, meadowlarks and bluebirds.
