Sector 2: Morning Star Ranch

2. MORNING STAR RANCH
Size: 9.59 sq. mi.

GENERAL: Road access to the sector on the north side is through either Morning Star or Salero Ranches. Non-residents will need an invitation and gate codes to access the sector (talk to previous sector leaders for contact names on these ranches). South half is State land (south of black line on map), but difficult to access as it involves descending steep hills and washes on sketchy cow trails. The southernmost part of the sector can be accessed from the dirt roads along Sonoita Creek (#7 and #8), however access to those roads may be complicated the need to cross private land. Mostly foothills and lower mid-elevation canyons around 4000 ft in elevation.

TARGET SPECIES: Fairly large pond on Grosvenor Rd. (Crankshaft), Chivas Tank, and the reservoir off the Morning Star south road all offer waterfowl opportunities most years. Golden Eagles have nested just north of the sector off Grosvenor Rd. in the past.  Five-stripe Sparrows and Black-capped Gnatcatchers have been seen in suitable habitat in the southern parts of the sector.
